She is the principal mosque of Istanbul and the only mosque with 6 minarets. It is called because of the tile decoration (mostly blue) Blue Mosque. Built 1609-1616 by architect Mehmet, a student of the great architect and architect Sinan, it is a monumental work of Islamic architecture and art with more than 20,000 Fayenceşiesen golden Koranic script bands, red carpets and 260 buntverglasten window. The Blue Mosque is very close to the Hagia, in the Sultanahmet district.
